Children of every age are welcomed to The Learning
Circle each Sunday morning during the 9:30 service. We
offer a variety of activities for each age level, from
infant through twelfth grade. Nursery care is provided
for infants through young preschoolers during the 11:15
service. Visitors are always welcome.
You are invited to
call or email The Rev. Julie Yarborough with questions or for more
information.

infants and toddlers
|
Infants and toddlers are welcomed year-round in our
professionally staffed Nursery. It is staffed from
8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. each Sunday morning.
Infants are also welcome to stay with their parents in
worship, but we ask that you use your discretion and
step outside for a while should they become
disruptive.

two & three year olds
|
Two and Three year olds are invited to come into church
with their parents for the children's message, and then
leave for Sunday School with all of the other
children. Their class is on the second floor of the
Barnwell Building and is staffed by loving volunteers
who provide age-appropriate Bible stories with time for
free play and snacks.

Workshop Rotation Model
|
|
The Workshop Rotation Model teaches Bible
Stories and other topics in a dynamic and creative format.
Children, grouped by age, rotate through different
workshops over a five-week period. Each workshop focuses on
the same story or theme but employs different activities
and media. Workshops include drama, art, cooking,
computers, music, games, videos and more. This approach,
which is based on Harvard Education Professor Howard
Gardner's theories of multiple intelligences, reinforces
the message with a fresh experience each week and helps
keep children engaged and motivated. (Click here here for
a website that describes the concept in more detail.)
We encourage parents to read along with their kids and
discuss what they are learning each week. By the end
of each rotation, we hope that the kids will know the
story well enough to tell it themselves!
During the 2005 - 2006 year, we will be exploring the theme,
"Do the Right Thing."
We'll be learning stories from the Bible about people like Joshua,
Ruth, David and Peter - people who trusted in God in order to "do the right
thing." The first five weeks in the fall we'll be proucing a play about
Joshua, which will be performed in worship on Sunday, October 9 during the
9:30 service.

ages four and five
|
Four and five year old children meet on the second
floor of the Barnwell Building. They learn the same
story as the older children but stay in one classroom
with the same teachers for the full five weeks.
|
 |
|
first through sixth grades
|
Children in grades one through six rotate to a
different learning space each week. When the children
are dismissed from worship, they meet at the Labyrinth
in the Atrium to meet their adult "Shepherds" and
learn where they will be going for the day.

|
|
Assemblies
|
|
During school vacation weeks, we have special assembly
sessions for ages four through sixth grade. All the
kids are brought together for a special program and
activity, often involving a service project of some
sort. Examples of assemblies include packing health
kits for victims of hurricanes, making Christmas
Stockings for children in Newark, or sorting
toiletries for Bridges.

Computer Classroom
|
|
Christ Church has a well-equipped computer classroom which is
used as one of the "stops" in the Workshop Rotation Model. Children
are able to work their way through some of the excellent multimedia Sunday School
modules that are now being produced.

seventh and eighth grades
|
|
Seventh graders meet in the chapel for their Sunday
School class each week except the first Sunday of the
month when they stay in church for the worship service
and communion.
This year the seventh graders are using
the Seasons of the Spirit curriculum, and they are
learning what it means to be a contemporary disciple
of Jesus.
Eight graders spend the year in confirmation
classes with Rev. Chuck Rush. They meet on Sunday
afternoons or evenings, and are expected to attend
church on Sunday mornings.
For more information about
ministry to seventh and eighth graders, please go to our
Youth Ministry
page.
