AUTHOR OF MEMOIR CHRONCLING MIDDLE-AGED WOMAN’S SOLO ADVENTURES THROUGH AFRICA AND ASIA LAUNCHES BOOK TOUR

LOCAL AUTHOR MEG PETERSON TO SPEAK

AT CHRIST CHURCH IN SUMMIT

SUMMIT, New Jersey (September 22, 2006) – Meg Noble Peterson, a Maplewood resident, member of Christ Church, and author of the recently-published travel memoir, Madam, Have You Ever Really Been Happy? An Intimate Journey Through Africa and Asia, will speak at an upcoming adult education session to be held at Christ Church in Summit, it was announced today.

Peterson’s most recent book is a  witty chronicling of  the adventures and intimate journey of self discovery of a middle-aged divorced woman engaged in a solo trek through the heart of Africa and Asia. Approaching sixty and newly divorced after thirty-three years of marriage, Peterson set off alone on an eight-month odyssey that took her from the crowded streets of Cairo and contentious apartheid of South Africa to India’s magnificent Taj Mahal and the peaks of the Himalaya.

Traveling on a shoestring and making plans as she went along, Peterson ventured far off the beaten path, carrying only a backpack, camera, and journals. She rode on dilapidated buses through Egypt and Zimbabwe and squeezed into hot, crowded trains in India. In Kenya, she encountered roadblocks and Masai warriors. Abandoned at 14,000 feet by a drunken guide, Peterson and a companion climbed to Everest Base Camp through the snow and ice, and were almost buried by an avalanche before they reach Kala Patar at 18,500 ft.

“Meg’s book vividly demonstrates that it’s never too late in life to start discovering all that life has to offer,” said Reverend Charles T. Rush of Christ Church.  “Her amazing story should inspire all of us to get up off the couch and get busy.”

A mother of five grown children, Peterson concludes her book with a tribute to her eldest son, Christopher, who lost his battle with AIDS in 2001.
